Online Vet Tech Program: Cedar Valley College

The distance learning program via Cedar Valley College, also called the Distance Education Veterinary Technology Program (DEVTP) is a nice option for many students because it does not have any geographic restrictions. This program is designed for anyone who is working in a veterinary hospital, and is too busy with their obligations to attend classes in-person on a school campus. This program is fully accredited by the AVMA, and is the only online school recommended by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).

The DEVTP curriculum is split into 4 levels, which get progressively more advanced as you continue through the program. For levels 2-4, you will be required to work with an approved preceptor, which is basically a vet or licensed veterinary technician that will be willing to supervise you and serve as your mentor. You can learn more about the clinical preceptor requirements in the section below.

Another nice thing about this program is that you can generally move at your own pace. While specific class assignments will always have pre-set deadlines, you can choose to take a semester off if you need to. This is a convenient option to have for people with really busy work schedules or a hectic home life.
