Clinical Work/Mentors/Preceptors
Students must be available to work for a veterinarian for a minimum of 20 hours each week. To complete large animal and laboratory clinic credits, you will most likely have to travel to the campus in Birmingham. If you cannot perform certain tasks at the clinic you are working in, you may be required to travel to the campus or to another clinic that can accommodate you. 480 total externship hours are required for graduation.
Admissions Requirements
Volunteer/Work Experience Must be working 20 hours/week minimum at veterinary practice so lab requirements can be met. Must complete 40 hours of observation at a veterinary practice prior to applying for admission.
Degree/Diploma High school diploma or equivalent
Required Classes 18 general education credits (composition, speech, math and biology courses)
Geographic Restrictions None
Reference letters 2 – one from a veterinarian
Other Drug screening and background check ($100)
