Online Vet Tech Program: Purdue University
Purdue University offers one of the most popular online vet tech programs in the country, mostly thanks to the school’s great reputation. The program has been accredited by the AVMA since 2002, and it prides itself on going far beyond the minimum requirements to achieve this distinction. Many consider it to be the highest quality distance education program available for aspiring veterinary technicians.
Most students who enroll in the Veterinary Technology Distance Learning (VTDL) program at Purdue are already working for a veterinarian that they have a strong relationship with, and want to continue working for after they get their associate’s degree and state license.
Some of the downsides of this program include high tuition rates (it is by far the most expensive DL vet tech program around), and the fact that it has a slower pace than other schools. The average student graduates in 4-5 years. The workload is intentionally designed this way to accommodate distance learning students, who are typically busy with other family and work obligations.
Graduates from this program have a 92% pass rate on the VTNE, and a 100% employment rate upon graduation.
